Hello Friends.
As you are probably aware the doors to our Seniors Centre have reopened as of Monday, September 28. This was a very happy day! It’s a very different looking place than before and we are running fewer activities for now but it’s still cause for excitement, I think.
We have begun by offering only the safest programs as a first step in ensuring we can operate while applying the safest protocols. Once we are able to see how these methods work and are able to iron out any kinks in our procedures we will begin assessing other activities. I want to assure you that all decisions are being made with safety first. We hope to soon be able to offer a number of other programs. It can be frustrating at times for our members, especially if your favourite activity is not available, but we have to do this cautiously. We are following all the safety protocols as outlined by the various Government and Health Agencies. At least we are beginning and our hope is to get the Centre back to as close to normal as possible as soon as it is possible. We want everyone to feel comfortable returning. We don’t want to make a mistake in haste and have to close down as a result.
We have only been open for just over a week but so far so good. It’s wonderful seeing people come through the doors again and be able to socialize with friends. At a distance of course. I think we all have the 2 meter mark imbedded in our brains by now. And I’ve seen some pretty creative masks as well.
Our Receptionists have been doing a fantastic job. They deserve a lot of credit for all the work they’ve done to help us reopen. Remember when you see the ladies that this is all new for them and they are also learning these new ways of doing things. Please be patient if there are any mix-ups in the beginning. From what they tell me everyone seems very happy to be back and are taking to the new arrangements wonderfully and with a good deal of friendly humour. I would like to give a shout out here to Carol Hedenberg and Ruth Church for all the effort they have put into training and scheduling the receptionists and working out the protocols for the Reception Desk. Thank you both very much. Your hard work is appreciated!
I have to say again that Karie, Andrew and Bill all deserve a great vote of thanks for their hard work and the creative ways they have sorted things out. If you would like a tour of the Centre before rejoining a program just call Karie or Andrew to arrange a time with them. They’ll be happy to show you around.
Don’t forget to check the Website periodically for the latest information. It is also where you will find the newsletter. Please refer to the October newsletter for all the protocols you will need to know before coming back to the Centre. If you would prefer a hard copy of the newsletter they are available at the Centre. They are in the rack between the two front doors.
Lets consider this a good step forward and the start of even better things to come. I’d like to say we’re eager to see your smiling faces but with the mask mandate we all better learn how to SMILE with our eyes!
