The Covid-19 situation in York Region continues to change rapidly but thankfully things seem somewhat better for now. The Region has moved back into the Red Zone which is an improvement from the Total Lockdown we were in. The number of cases are down and as of March 1, vaccines became available for people over 80 years of age. The place to register is at york.ca/covid19vaccine. All appointments have been taken for the first two weeks already but new dates will continue to be added.
Recently you should have received a short survey from the ASA with 3 questions regarding vaccines. If you have not yet filled out the survey we strongly encourage you to do so. This information will help us in planning how and when it will be safe to reopen our Centre. If you do not have a copy of the survey please contact Karie at kpappilon@aurora.ca and she will send you one. Please do this ASAP as many of the decisions we make will be influenced by our members answers. We will be discussing this at our next board meeting on March 15th. By the way, all our Board meetings are on Zoom now. If you would like to attend please contact Karie at the above email address and she will send you the details on how to access the meeting.
We are also investigating the feasibility of a General Meeting over Zoom in June that our members can join. We will inform you once we have more details on that.
While we are in constant contact with Christine Elliott’s office for the latest Covid-19 information please understand that the situation is constantly changing. Any new or pertinent information we receive will be posted on the website and sent out via E-flashes and the newsletter. As always hard copies of the newsletter can be picked up between the front doors of the Centre.
Senior Centres Without Walls will continue to offer various virtual programs. We are also working with some of our Activities to explore virtual meetings or just get together with their group members to reconnect.
For now I would like to encourage you to stay safe by continuing to stay home as much as possible and practice all the safety protocols we are getting so used to. I truly believe that we have reason to be optimistic that before too much longer things will begin to look a lot brighter. In the meantime stay patient a little longer and take care of yourselves.
Stay safe… Dave LeGallais
